OJ Simpson’s Executor Vows to Defend Estate Against Brown and Goldman Families

The executor of the former NFL running back assures that he will try to defend the assets he left against the Brown and Goldman families

LAS VEGAS – The executor of OJ Simpson. Simpson’s estate says it will work to avoid paying a $33.5 million judgment awarded by a civil jury in California nearly three decades ago in a lawsuit filed by the families of Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and his friend Ron Goldmanboth murdered.

Simpson’s will was filed Friday in a Clark County court in Nevadanaming his lifelong lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, as executor. The document shows Simpson’s property was placed in a trust that was created this year.

LaVergne commented to Las Vegas Review-Journal that Simpson’s entire estate has not been accounted for. According to the law of Nevadaan estate must go through court if its assets exceed $20,000.

OJ Simpson He died Wednesday without having paid most of the civil judgment that was awarded in 1997 after jurors found him liable. With their assets ready to go through the court probate process, the Goldman and Brown families could be in line to receive a share of what Simpson left behind.

LaVergne, who had represented Simpson since 2009, noted that he specifically did not want the Goldman family to see any money from Simpson’s estate.

“I’m hoping the Goldmans get zero, nothing,” he stressed. Review-Journal. “Them specifically. And I will do everything in my capacity as executor or personal representative to try to ensure that they don’t get anything.”

LaVergne did not immediately respond to phone and email messages left for him. The Associated Press Saturday.

Although the Brown and Goldman families have pushed for payment, LaVergne said there was never a court order forcing Simpson to pay the civil judgment. The attorney told the Review-Journal that his particular anger toward the Goldman family was due in part to events surrounding Simpson’s planned book, titled “If I Did It“Goldman’s family gained control of the manuscript and renamed the book If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer.”

OJ Simpson He gained fame and fortune through American football and show business, but his legacy was forever changed with the murders of his ex-wife and Goldman in June 1994 in The Angels. He was acquitted of criminal charges in 1995 in a trial that captivated the public.

Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman, the lead plaintiff, always said the problem was never money; it was just about holding Simpson accountable. He noted in a statement Thursday that, with Simpson’s death, “hope for true accountability has ended.”

The Goldman and Brown families will at least be on equal footing with other creditors and will likely have an even stronger claim as Simpson’s estate is liquidated under the terms established by the trust created in January. The will lists his four children and notes that any beneficiary seeking to challenge the will’s provisions “shall receive, free of trust, one dollar ($1.00) and nothing more in lieu of any interest claimed in this will or its assets.”

Simpson said he lived only on his pension NFL and private. Hundreds of valuable possessions were gone and Simpson was forced to auction off his Heisman Trophyobtaining $230,000.
