While it may surprise some, baseball was actually Mahomes’ favorite sport growing up. It makes sense when you consider that his father played MLB.

During an interview with Time magazineMahomes revealed that he actually wants to try baseball at some point in the next few years.

Baseball was my first love…I talked to royalty. And if maybe I could go to spring training, I’m not against it. I’ll get the Chiefs to approve it… But maybe one of these years I’ll go out there and see what I got.

Mahomes also revealed that his baseball was always the career plan. His goal was to attend college, play three years of football followed by three years of baseball and then get back into the MLB Draft.

Mahomes had been drafted by Detroit Tigers finished high school, but chose to go there Texas Tech Instead. Although Mahomes had impressed as a baseball player when he was younger, his NFL coach, Andy Reid, isn’t completely on board with his spring training plan; at least not yet.

I didn’t even think about it. You’re hitting me with a nice big one right there. He was an outstanding baseball player. I’m sure he can play in the big leagues. I mean, he’s pretty gifted. He should take me as manager.

Luckily for Reid, Mahomes is still fully committed to bringing more Lombardi Trophies into the Chiefs cabinet.
