ÖFB Cup: Klagenfurt is preparing for the masses again

ÖFB Cup

Like last year, Klagenfurt will be colored in black and white and green and white on May 1st. The final of the Uniqa ÖFB Cup is sold out again with 30,000 spectators in the Wörthersee Stadium. There will be no marches by supporters this year, but fan villages should get the two camps in the mood for the final in the morning (from 4.30 p.m., live on ORF1). The Klagenfurt police are receiving reinforcements from almost all of Austria.

The two finalists each received just over 12,000 tickets for the final, and the almost 6,000 tickets in the “neutral” sector have also been allocated. Klagenfurt’s 2008 European Championship Arena is providing the stage for the cup showdown for the eleventh time in a row. The ÖFB can be happy: The final of the two crowd-pullers ensured that almost 200,000 fans (currently: 164,862) came to the games in the current cup season – a record. The Klagenfurt hotel industry can also be happy: there are hardly any free rooms left in the state capital.

The organizers are once again relying on a strict separation of the two fan camps with separate travel routes. This time Rapid gets the north side of the arena, Sturm the south side. The restaurants will be open in both areas from 10 a.m. Because of the high demand, the organizers recommend arriving as early as possible. Stadium admission begins at 3 p.m. Traffic disruptions are to be expected in Klagenfurt due to the major event.

Reinforcements from almost all of Austria

The Klagenfurt police will receive reinforcements from almost all other federal states on the holiday. All dog handlers from Carinthia are on duty, as are the rapid intervention group, EKO Cobra, the “Libelle” police helicopter and organs with knowledge of explosives. WEGA travels from Vienna to provide support.
