Porter, a 24-year-old American, is a minor NBA player where he only played 37 matches between the 2020-2021 and 2023-2024 seasons. He is the little brother of Michael Porter Jr., the most important player for defending champion Denver.
The NBA accuses him of more than a dozen bets on NBA matches, of having also shared information about his health to a bettor and of having withdrawn during a match to influence bets concerning him.
“There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for fans, teams and everyone associated with our sport,” Adam Silver wrote in a statement.
According to the NBA, Porter’s net winnings from bets amounted to $21,965 (approximately 20,581 euros).
A majority of American states have legalized sports betting since a Supreme Court decision in 2018.
