Men’s volleyball, Perugia champions of Italy: Monza defeated 3-1 in the championship series

Sir Susa Vim Perugia is the Italian men’s volleyball champion for the second time in its history. The Umbrian team in fact won 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-20) on the Mint Vero Volley Monza field in game 4 of the championship finals, winning the series 3-1 and therefore winning the scudetto. Perugia thus completes its seasonal poker: Scudetto, Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup and Club World Cup. For coach Angelo Lorenzetti it is the second consecutive title after last year at the helm of Itas Trentino, and the fourth in his career in three clubs different. Today’s match winner was spiker Wilfredo Leon, a Polish ex-Cuban champion who scored 25 points. For the “Block Devils” from Perugia, in their seventh final ever, it is their fourth title of the season after having triumphed in every competition in which they have taken part. The Scudetto, in addition to the Italian Cup, is in addition to the Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Perugia and Monza had already faced each other in the Italian Cup final on January 28th. The titles of the Juventus club of president Gino Sirci, which in the space of a few years has become a protagonist on the highest stages, have thus become 13. From next season Perugia will also return to Europe, with participation in the Champions League. THEMeanwhile today there was a successful farewell from Perugia for captain Wilfredo Leon, who knocked down 25 balls and played a starring role in the final. The Caribbean player who plays for Poland in the national team has in fact decided to leave Umbria, even if he still doesn’t know which team he will be part of next season. “But I’m 30 years old and I expect to play for another eight,” he said recently.
