Memphis Grizzlies Focus on Future as Star Players Sidelined for Season

We’re not going to beat around the bush. The reality is that the Memphis Grizzlies’ campaign seemed almost over after Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension was announced, and just in case there were any doubts, only nine games after the star point guard returned to the court, he suffered an injury that made him out until 2024-25. Yes, by that time everyone was already in Tennessee thinking about what will happen in the June draft and putting together a competitive team for the future.

With such a scenario, it is not surprising that in Memphis they are thinking that it is time for none of their important pieces to risk the slightest on the track. Who are we specifically talking about? By Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.

The first of them recovered from a very serious injury in mid-January and was not able to return until March. However, now back he has had a lumbar problem that has not allowed him to play since March 28. In the case of the center we find tendinitis in the right quadriceps that has kept him out for a week. What do the Grizzlies think about it? That they shouldn’t play anymore.

Asked what they plan to do with their players, the coach of the Teenessee organization, Taylor Jenkins, assures that it is likely that both will not play again this season; reports Damichael Cole of Memphis Commercial Appeal. Beyond this situation, which was foreseeable, the Grizzlies believe that what they experienced this year will not be more than an isolated event and that they will return strongly in the 2024-25 season.
