Luis Gonzalez Taveras Returns to Parma Baseball for 2023 Season

Parma baseball is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement for the return to the ducal city of Luis Gonzalez Taveras, a Dominican infielder already with Parma Clima last season.

Gonzalez, born in Esperanza in the Dominican Republic on 28 July 1994, will occupy the third slot relating to the registration of foreign players, the last one available after the signings of the Cuban pitchers Casanova and Figueredo.
«I am particularly happy with Luis’s return to Parma – says Marcello Saccardi, manager of Parma Clima –. He possesses skills that are difficult to find in our championship, both in batting and in defence. He will play the shortstop role and will provide an important injection of power and continuity to our attack. Last year he was somewhat limited in the decisive phase of the season by a wrist injury from which he recovered perfectly. I’m counting on his personality and charisma to help my teammates have a successful season. With his arrival we can consider the interior group complete, now we await the return of Giulio Monello from the United States, scheduled for the end of May.”

Last year, Luis Gonzalez finished the season with 34 hits in 94 innings (.341 average) while hitting six doubles, a triple and a home run. In 2022 he played in Bologna, making 44 hits in 120 innings (.367), making nine doubles, one triple and six homeruns. Previously he had played eight seasons in the Minor League with the Cincinnati, Milwaukee and New York Mets franchises, reaching the triple-A level in 2019 with the Louisville Bats. During the winter seasons he wore the uniform of the Aguilas Cibaenas from 2016 to 2021 in the Winter League of the Dominican Republic.

Luis Gonzalez will reach Parma late today and will take the field on Saturday in the double match in Bologna against Fortitudo, the last test before the debut in Grosseto on 26 and 27 April.
