Judo Competition Highlights: U11 and U13 Fighters Shine at Demitz-Thumitz

Once again we went to Demitz-Thumitz to the large and bright hall in which the JSV Rammenau as the organizer had set up a total of 5 mats. Ida and Isabel from Weixdorf competed in the U11. Arthur, Emma, Felix, Jakob and Liam were later added to the U13 team. Torsten and Conny were the supervisors and Tilman was the judge.

The start of the competition for the little ones in the U9 age group was not scheduled to start until 9:30 a.m. and so the U11s were even able to take part in the official opening of the competition. After that it was just a matter of waiting. In the meantime the U13s also arrived in the hall. After the U9, there was a short warm-up break for the U11 and then it finally started.

Ida started in the GK -40kg and had to deal with two opponents. She was able to assert herself well in the hold fight and was able to score left in both fights with O-Goshi. Ida achieved a great 1st place.

Isabel had it a little harder in her GK-34kg and also had 3 opponents. In the first fight she was a bit taken by surprise. In the second she was able to improve but not yet achieve a score. Unfortunately, to everyone’s surprise, the judges’ decision went against them. In the last fight she was able to beat her opponent twice with O-Goshi on Waza-Ari

Rating: almost one point; Two waza ari make ippon

After the U11 there was another short warm-up break and we could continue.

Jakob had one of the first fights straight away. He started in the GK -37kg with a total of 10 fighters in a double KO system. In his first fight he was surprised at the beginning by his opponent with a hip technique and was able to do the Waza-Ari

Rating: almost one point; Two waza ari make ippon

In the GK -46kg, Liam and Arthur first fought against each other and then against their two opponents from Radeberg and SV Sachsenwerk. Liam was able to win the Weixdorf duel and was also able to win the other two fights, once with hip technique and once with a developed hold. With this he fought for 1st place. Arthur lacked a little courage and self-confidence in his fights. He once got caught unnecessarily in a hold and was once countered hard backwards. Nevertheless, he was able to celebrate a bronze medal.

In his GK -40kg, Felix always had more experienced opponents, some of whom had significantly darker belt colors. The fact that it wasn’t the highest-ranked fighter at the top of the podium in the end proves that something can still be possible. Felix fought with commitment and courage, but in two fights he got caught in a hold from which he could no longer free himself. In his last two fights he was surprised by foot techniques (Hiza-Guruma and De-Ashi-Barai). Unfortunately, we weren’t able to place today.

Emma competed in the GK -30kg and had a total of 3 fights. In the first fight she met one of her long-time rivals and was countered with O-Soto-Otoshi. In the second fight she appeared more energetic and was able to start with Seoi-Nage, move on to O-Soto-Otoshi and defeat her opponent on the ground with a hold. In her last fight she managed to beat her opponent with O-Goshi on Ippon

Highest rating in Judo: If a fighter receives Ippon, he or she has won.
