Joan Lleonart and Marta Mansito, first leaders of the Spanish Optimist Cup in Almería

The Spanish Optimist Cup, Gran Trofeo Almería, already has its first leaders. A second day in which it was now possible to sail, although the intention of the regatta committee was to close four races, the wind, which has been increasing in intensity exceeding 25 knots, has only allowed three to be completed. The day started with 6 knots, going to 10 in the second, 14 in the third and then the fourth went to 25, always 220º.

Joan Lleonart, from CN Balís, assumes absolute command of the fleet, with partials of 1-1-3, thus adding 5 points. Joan Domingo (CN Cambrils), for his part, has been the only one to keep up with the Catalan. Two third places and a partial victory in the last race give him a chance to continue fighting for the cup. He closes the day with 7 points. Provisional bronze for Sean Dylan Sadler (CN S’Arenal), with 9 points in his locker thanks to the 5-2-2 partials. All of them have been included in the yellow group.

In women, canary color on the provisional podium, with two sailors from RCN Gran Canaria with the provisional gold and silver. Marta Mansito, in the yellow group, has achieved numbers of 10-5-6, thus adding 21 points. Only 2 behind her is her clubmate: Lili María Skomska, sailing in the blue fleet and who has gone from more to less, with partial scores of 5-6-12. The bronze, for the moment, goes to the Balearic Beatriz Quintana (CN Cala Gamba) who closes her participation today with results of 15-17-4, within the yellow group.

Regarding the U13 category, the Valencian territorial team rules. Arthur Baker (CN Jávea) is first in the table, followed by Izán Rogel from Torrevieja, while third place goes to Iván Sáez, both from RCN Torrevieja. In women, the provisional box is very distributed with the Canarian Alba Ponce (RCN Gran Canaria) leading, followed by Emma Frau (RCN Palma) and the Murcian Inés Rodado (CN Mar Menor).

Tomorrow, the third and final day of the Spanish Cup, Gran Trofeo Almería, in which three other tests are planned, although if the wind conditions allow it it would be completed with one more, four. The forecasts are not entirely good, since a strong wind is expected first thing in the morning, so at the close of the press release the possibility of modifying the schedule, advancing the top start one hour, is being considered.
