Judo Worlds: Clarisse Agbégnénou eliminated in the quarter-finals

Clarisse Agbégnénou stops in the quarter-finals during these world championships in Abu Dhabi, in the under 63 kg category. Opposed to the Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard, the one who was world champion six times will not go further. While she had always been in the final of a World Championship, Clarisse Agbégnénou missed her goal but could still be a medalist thanks to the repechage.

The Frenchwoman had nevertheless succeeded well in her entry into the competition, eliminating the Polish Natalia Kropska on an ippon before defeating the Japanese Megumi Horikawa, 2022 world champion, in the round of 16. Facing Beauchemin-Pinard, world number 1, the game was much more complicated.

While she had always beaten her in five fights, Agbégnénou never found the solution. Disturbed by a shido (a penalty) for non-combativeness, the Frenchwoman suffered a waza-ari and was never able to regain the upper hand over her opponent. She can always hope for a bronze medal, she who was drafted.

It will start with a fight against the Croatian Iva Oberan, eliminated at the same stage of the competition by the Dutch Joanne Van Lieshout. To be a medalist, the Olympic champion in the category will have to win a second fight.
