Inter Miami Faces CONCACAF Fine After Player Altercation with Monterrey at Chase Stadium

Inter Miami did not get their way after some of their players, including Lionel Messi, got into a fight at Chase Stadium after the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Quarterfinals.

After it was confirmed that Inter Miami rebuked some elements of Monterrey after the match, CONCACAF decided to investigate the matter and applied a financial fine to the team led by Gerardo “Tata” Martino. According to Fernando Schwartz, a FOX Sports journalist, he stated on his X account (formerly Twitter) that there will be a $15,000 infraction for the MLS club.

“After considering the documentation and evidence collected during its investigation, which included requesting written statements from both clubs and thoroughly reviewing the reports presented by the match referees, and based on the competition regulations and the applicable Disciplinary Code, the Committee Disciplinary has fined Inter Miami CF. an undisclosed amount due to lack of security in its stadium,” CONCACAF explained.

Monterrey would have already filed a complaint with CONCACAF after a dispute with Inter Miami

After what happened at Chase Stadium, the Rayados leadership ended up extremely upset by what happened and would have filed a complaint with the CONCACAF authorities: this, with the main reason that the MLS club be sanctioned after the behavior shown by his players after the game.

Before the first leg against Inter Miami, the Monterrey coach caused controversy by talking about the refereeing and the fear he had that it would favor the MLS team, something that did not happen and even Tata Martino’s team was left without a player after the expulsion of David Ruiz in the 65th minute.

“Then come the referees, the framework, the people, everything that surrounds Messi can make sporting and non-sporting decisions.” […]. I don’t know if it hurts but the business is not there. The business is not going the way of Monterrey and we all know it. We all know that football is business. I’m going to beat him athletically, then there are things that I can’t handle,” added Tano Ortiz.
