In the first legs of the Europa League quarter-finals, the second European club cup, Roma beat Milan 1-0 and Atalanta beat Liverpool 3-0, both away from home. Roma’s goal was scored by Gianluca Mancini in the 17th minute; those of Atalanta by Gianluca Scamacca (two) and Mario Pašalić. Atalanta’s result is particularly surprising: Liverpool is one of the strongest teams in Europe and is first in the English league table, rarely losing at home and even more rarely with such a large gap. The second leg of both matches will be played next Thursday, 18 April.
In the other Europa League quarter-finals, Benfica beat Olympique Marseille 2-1 and Bayer Leverkusen beat West Ham 2-0. The return matches will be played in a week, on Thursday 18 April. In the quarter-finals of the Conference League, the third most important European cup, Fiorentina drew 0-0 away from home against the Czechs Viktoria Plzen. Fiorentina will also play the return match at home next Thursday.
