Andrea Dovizioso, 38 years old, former motorcycle world champion in the 125 class and then rival of Valentino Rossi also in Moto GP, was the victim of an accident this morning on the Terranuova Bracciolini motocross track, in the Tasso area, the Tasso Motors Park. He was immediately transported by Pegaso helicopter to the Florentine hospital in Careggi, where fortunately his condition turned out to be less serious than the code red under which the flight took place.

His life is not in danger and his entourage is cautiously optimistic about his chances of recovery: he has suffered a head injury.

The accident

Dovizioso was training on the Tasso track with a Yamaha cross motorbike, a specialty to which he moved after abandoning official motorcycling. Suddenly the motorbike jolted on the rough terrain and the rider lost control, falling heavily to the ground and hitting his head.

According to what transpires, he never lost consciousness but the head trauma still led the 118 first responders in the ambulance to request the intervention of the helicopter for transport to Careggi, a center better equipped for the injuries sustained by the centaur. Even from the Florentine polyclinic the first rumors that leak out speak of a situation not likely to cause immediate alarm.

For his many fans and for the entourage that accompanied him on the Terranuova track, there were moments of fear.

The carreer

Dovizioso began racing at the end of the 1990s on an Aprilia motorbike, born in 1925. In 2000 he was already Italian champion, in 2001 he made his debut in the world championship, in 2004 he made his way to the world title, with five successes, five second places and eight pole positions . The following year he moved to the 250 class, with other important successes but without managing to obtain the world title. In 2008, therefore, the debut in Moto GP, the most spectacular class, the one in which the most beloved champions race, including Valentino Rossi.

The success in the British Grand Prix, in the wet, allows him to become one of the few riders, together with Rossi, Capirossi and Max Biaggi, who have won in all classes. He will compete with numerous brands, including Yamaha and Ducati, obtaining brilliant results but here too without ever managing to win the world title. Retirement in 2022. In 2023 he was nominated, due to his palmares, Moto GP legend, an award he collected on the Mugello circuit.
