Diego Menéndez and Marcos Fernández, from the “Judo Lena” Club, directed by teacher José Pajarón Rodríguez, are waiting to receive the call to be summoned to attend the Spanish Championship, which will take place on the 26th, 27th and 28th of this month. Both athletes from Lenense were proclaimed champions of Asturias this first weekend of April, at the La Magdalena sports center, in Avilés, under the organization of the Asturian Federation.
Menéndez revalidated his title in the over 90 kilo category with a series of intense fights, winning all of them by Ippon (the highest score in judo). For his part, Marcos Fernández also successfully defended his title at 90 kilos, also winning all his fights for Ippon.
His teammates, Evaristo Díaz (55 kilos) and Lucía Campos (48 kilos) achieved different results in the same category. Despite their hard work and dedication, they were unable to advance to the next round after entering the repechage.
