Hockey Legend Jaromír Jágr Surprises Young Players at Pucks Help Tournament

The minor hockey players of Teplice met in Chomutov with Jaromír Jágr, the legendary forward who was the face of the Pucks help tournament. He surprised not only them, but also other future hopes of Czech hockey in the disguise of a lion. He left the cabin of the Chrudim team with an unusual experience.

The two-day tournament in Chomutov was the culmination of Kaufland’s campaign of the same name. Last year, it distributed support worth 10 million crowns among a total of 88 teams of young hockey players from all over the Czech Republic. 9 teams took part in the tournament, and the votes of customers in the campaign secured the first place in their region and a qualifying ticket for this tournament.

Teplice won the vote in their region, but did not fight for medals on the ice. Nevertheless, their representatives thoroughly enjoyed the weekend meeting with their friends of the same age (years 2015 and younger).

Among them, Jaromír Jágr visited the cabin, with whom they then took a picture. “It was great, he was amazing,” gushed Teplice hockey player Nina. “The children were thrilled. Mr. Jágr treated them wonderfully,” confirmed HC Teplice coach Jiří Procházka.

One of the biggest legends in the history of Czech hockey, who is now waiting in the Kladna extra-league playoff against Vsetín, was in Chomutov as a mascot, wearing a lion costume. He honestly went around all the cabins of small hockey players. He must have heard in the Chrudim that he was already old. “I like it when children are truthful, that’s what I like about them, they’re not fake. But I think it was the costume,” he then laughed out loud. “I’ve already dressed up as Santa Claus in the past. You can’t take yourself too seriously,” he added.

SK Sršni Kutná Hora took third place out of all the participating teams, HK Lev Slaný took the silver position, and the home Piráti Chomutov took first place.

“I would definitely like to thank everyone who participated in the Pucks Help tournament, because it was one of the best events in recent years. Combining a hockey tournament with a knowledge and skills competition is perfect. You don’t see that at other tournaments at all, so it was great to try disciplines other than hockey. Of course, I congratulate us on the win. All the teams were of good quality, so it’s a big victory for us,” commented Michal Žižka, coach of Chomutov Pirates.

“It’s great for the children that they can try out a two-day tournament at such a great level, and I really appreciate that the results included skills from other disciplines on and off the ice. When I see how young hockey players enjoy the competition, I’m glad that I was able to come and support them at the Pucks Help tournament,” said Jaromír Jágr.

The young hockey players were also accompanied to the event by their coaches and parents, who were able to attend a lecture by hockey coach Jan Kregl on the topic of long-term development of young athletes and workshops focused on topics related to the all-round development and preparation of young athletes. The guests were, for example, mental coach Marián Jelínek, fitness coach of the Czech hockey team Hana Bubníková and also coach Slavomír Lener from the Olympic Committee of the Czech Republic.
