Yes, all ballot boxes arrived at the Yeongdeungpo-gu vote counting center here in Seoul about an hour ago, and the vote counting process began in earnest.

As you can see behind me, the counting workers are busy carrying and opening ballot boxes. The vote counting rate appears to be somewhat slower than in previous elections.

Unlike in the past, where all sorting and counting of ballots was done by machines, in this general election, check sheets were added to ensure that ballot counting clerks were properly sorted.

In addition, the proportional representation ballot, which is the longest ever at 51.7 cm, cannot be used at all, so it must be counted by hand.

For this reason, it is expected that the end of the vote counting will take longer than in previous elections.

In addition to Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, vote counting is underway at 254 counting stations across the country.

The National Election Commission deployed approximately 76,000 personnel to manage the vote counting.

The results of the local constituency winners are expected to be announced around 2 a.m. tomorrow, well past midnight, and the results for proportional representative candidates are expected to be known only after 5 a.m. tomorrow.
