Thus, the prices of consumer goods and services for families have increased this month by 0.7% compared to March, a tenth more than the year-on-year rate recorded in March. Compared to a year ago, the increase is 3.3%, also a tenth above the growth of the previous month.

Despite this, the underlying CPI (which does not take into account either energy or fresh food, which are more volatile) continued the moderation started a few months ago and stood 2.9% higher than in April 2023 , a figure four tenths lower than last month’s rate. It is the first time the core CPI has been below the headline since November 2022.

This Monday’s data are a preview of the final ones, which the INE will confirm, along with the figures broken down by autonomous communities, on May 14.
