From Darkness to Triumph: The Inspiring Journey of Michele Milli

“It was a day that I remember very well because it represented the watershed between my life before and my life now” he says Michele Milliblind.

The story of Michele Milli, blind due to an accident

A 38 year old Umbertide native, his story is one of those that teach us to look beyond; a story of “resurrection”, which helps to make the message of this Easter time that we are going through current. Michele lost his sight on January 27, 2008 due to an accident. Since then his existence has been turned upside down, but he didn’t give up, and today he is a standard-bearer of life, a wonderful gift that God has given us and that many often take for granted. On our pages he delivers a well-rounded story, from the accident on a hunting ground that left him blind, to the desire to fight every day, up to obtaining a degree in Physiotherapy, but also great results in Paralympic judo, and the mountain trekking experiences.

Thrilling, when he remembers the moment when everything around him became dark… “I was in the car, I was driving along a dirt road near an olive grove. A boy who was nearby inadvertently fired a rifle shot which hit the front windshield of my car: the glass shattered, the splinters ended up in my eyes, making me blind. Unfortunately he took away my sight… but probably, if there hadn’t been that windshield that cushioned the blow, I wouldn’t even be here today to tell my story.”

After the accident, what did you do?

“With the support of friends and family, I immersed myself in university studies in Physiotherapy. Being also the first blind student in the faculty, there was an absolute desire on the part of the teachers to help me embark on this path. However, since it was their first experience of this type, they asked me to help them help me! Once I graduated, I then opened a studio. And there, thanks to some of my patients, I discovered the world of judo which I became passionate about, eventually joining the Italian Paralympic team and winning several titles. Losing your sight at 23 makes everything collapse around you and everything becomes terribly difficult, but I’m there.”
