Erzgebirge Aue Advances to Saxony Cup Final, Keeps DFB Cup Chance Alive

Erzgebirge Aue has kept its chance of reaching the first round of the DFB Cup. The third division football team won 4-0 (2-0) against the upper division club Bischofswerdaer FV and thus reached the final of the Saxony Cup. The team from Bischofswerda eliminated the defending champions Lok Leipzig in the quarter-finals.

The violets gave the Oberliga team from Bischofwerda no chance. Marco Schikora scored after just 16 minutes from a corner from Marvin Stefaniak. Marcel Bär then scored twice in the 29th and 57th minutes and Steffen Meuer (76th) made the final score 4-0.

Aue captain Martin Männel said after the league defeat in Verl last Saturday that qualification for the DFB Cup was “almost vital” for the club. Aue was able to preserve this opportunity.
