Indonesian National Team Defender, Elkan Baggottfelt strange being able to score a goal for Bristol Rovers freely when beating Cheltenham Town 3-1 in the Premier League League One at Completely Stadium, Saturday (13/4).

Baggott scored his first goal for Bristol Rovers in the league when they beat Cheltenham, which incidentally is the 21-year-old defender’s former club. Baggott scored a header in the second half after receiving Harvey Vale’s corner kick.

In an interview after the match, Baggott admitted that he did not expect to score easily because there were no Cheltenham players to guard him in the penalty box.

“I felt strange because I wasn’t being guarded by an opposing player. I spoke to Wilson before the corner kick, I was going to turn back and ask him to block the player guarding me,” said Baggott via YouTube Bristol Rovers.

“But no one was guarding me. So I thought about jumping, heading and seeing where the ball was going. Luckily the ball went in,” added Baggott.

Bristol Rovers ended a seven-match winless run and scored a goal in League One with a fine display at Cheltenham. Baggott said Scott Sinclair’s first goal changed everything.

“I’m happy with this result. We can’t hide, we played badly, so winning was something we had to do, so this is a brilliant result for us. The first goal after seven games without scoring, once we scored the first goal the confidence increased .”

“In the first half we attacked well, we had a lot of chances, we should have scored more goals. We always say to forget the previous bad results. We started the game well, that was key. We performed well in the first 20 minutes and made Cheltenham survive,” Baggott said.

The first goal and victory felt special because Cheltenham is the club that Baggott played for last season on loan from Ipswich Town. However, Baggott only got one chance to play at the club.

“As a defender I like defending, but of course it’s always nice to score goals. I only played once for Cheltenham, that was in the second half of last season. So it’s even more fun to come back here and score goals,” said Baggott.
