Duel of the unbeaten in the qualifying group

Duel of the unbeaten in the qualifying group

Austria is planning the next successful step in the qualification group of the Admiral Bundesliga. After the struggling Viennese recently achieved their first win with a 1-0 win in Wolfsberg, they are set to follow up in the home game against WSG Tirol on Saturday (5 p.m.). The Watteners have been convincing so far; like Austria, they are not only unbeaten in the current qualifying group, but have also scored the most points.

The team of coach Thomas Silberberger, who left the club at the end of the season, has so far recorded two wins and two draws. As fourth in the “lower play-off”, the WSG is currently only three points behind the second WAC. The only issue in Tyrol remains the fight against relegation. The lead over bottom team Lustenau is eight points, after the double against Austria, the WSG is waiting for the home game against the last team from Vorarlberg at the end of the upcoming English week.

Austria has other goals: the Violets in front are aiming for a detour to the European Cup via the play-offs. In the six rounds up to then, victories should bring the necessary self-confidence. The fact that the people of Watten were able to convince recently is not at all inconvenient for Michael Wimmer. “They also want to play bravely, play actively. I hope that we experience a game in which both teams look for salvation on the offensive,” said the Austria coach.

The WSG wants to end a series of ten unsuccessful games against Austria in Vienna. At 0-2 at the end of the regular half, Nik Prelec missed a penalty for the Tyroleans when the score was 0-0. Coach Silberberger now expected “a mirror image of the last encounter. A very aggressive Vienna Austria that meets a WSG that is holding up.” His team has been “really in good shape” for five or six weeks, said Silberberger. “I think we will go to Vienna a little more relaxed because of the situation in the table. But it’s a little deceptive – we still want to get something from Austria.”
