The Doryoku judo club from Salamanca will travel to Madrid this coming weekend to fight again in the National League with its two teams in the second division: one in the men’s category and the other in the women’s category. The National League brings together the best teams on the National scene. Currently in the men’s category there are three divisions while in the women’s there are two.
One more year, Gerardo de Manueles and Fernando Díaz will accompany both teams in this very special tournament. On Saturday the men’s team will fight while the women’s team will do the same on Sunday. The following club judokas will attend as representatives of the women’s team: Cristina Rodríguez, Lucía Álvarez, Andrea Rodríguez, Valma Cornejo, Elena López, Adriana Cabezudo and Beatriz Alba. In the men’s event, Alberto Viñas, Carlos González, José Ramos, Héctor Rodríguez, Pablo Álvarez, Marcos Vitores and Charlie Antón will fight.
Gold in Martín de Antón
The latter, Charlie Antón, had an incredible tournament in Marín (Pontevedra) winning the gold medal in the Spanish Senior Super Cup. Álvaro Antón and Héctor R. Galache also participated in the men’s category in less than 66 kg. and in the female category Elena Casado in more than 78 kg.
Charlie Antón won the gold medal after winning his four fights. This result represents an important sum of points for the national ranking and also a strong motivational stimulus in their first tournament of the year. His partner Elena Casado caressed the bronze. It was a very close fight, but in the end he had to settle for a creditable fifth place. Álvaro Antón and Héctor R. Galache fell in the first round and did not have a play-off option.
