Crotone Welcomes Student Sports Competitions Promoting Solidarity and Values

Crotone is preparing to welcome an event of importance in terms of youth sport: the Student Sports Competitions. There will be 850 students from all over Calabria who they will meet between now and April 24th to compete in eight different sports disciplines: athletics, badminton, five-a-side football, orienteering, basketball, volleyball, handball and tag rugby. This event is not just a sporting competition, but also an opportunity to promote solidarity and the value of sport as a vehicle of brotherhood.

The initiative, promoted by the general director of USR Calabria Antonella Iunti and by the regional coordination of physical education, sees the collaboration of various institutions and organizations, including Sport e Salute spa, CONI, CIP, the National Sports Federations, the Calabria Region, the Province and the Municipality of Crotone.

The director of USR Calabria, Antonella Iunti, underlines the importance of this event for young Calabrians, «offering them an opportunity for growth through healthy sporting competition». Sport, according to Iunti, «transmits fundamental values ​​such as commitment, determination, respect for the rules, loyalty and above all respect for others, thus contributing to the formation of balanced and open personalities. Furthermore, sport can promote inclusion and reduce school dropout rates by broadening students’ skills».

The opening ceremony, entitled “Millennial Calabria, land of athletes” in homage to the glories of Ancient Greece, will be held today, April 16, at 5pm at the Apollo Theater in Crotone.
