Cofece investigates alleged collusion in cargo transportation – El Sol de México

The Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) announced that it found indications of possible collusion between federal cargo transportation providers to avoid competing among themselves, harming consumers.

In a statement, the Cofece Investigative Authority began an ex officio investigation with file IO-002-2023, with a period of 120 business days. The objective is to determine if these types of illegal agreements had been entered into between motor transportation providers.

“Those found responsible will be called to a procedure followed in the form of a trial to present their defense, so the beginning of the investigation does not constitute any prejudgment,” the agency indicated.

Cofece explained that cargo transportation is essential for the development of industry and commerce, given its influence on products and supplies reaching consumers in the best conditions. Furthermore, it acquires additional relevance in the context of company relocation due to nearshoring.

In 2022, this mode of transportation was the most used and moved 56.8 percent of the cargo in the country, the organization explained.
