Football Champions League: Arsenal vs. Bayern – live ticker – quarter-final first leg – 2023/2024

52.

22:10

With the inclusion of Zinchenko, the Gunners’ offensive game is more variable, with much more going down the left side than in the first half.

51.

22:08

Rice takes a free kick near the sideline on the left wing directly from the goal – over it.

49.

22:08

Gabriel Martinelli has space on the left because Kimmich slides away and passes perfectly into the back to Ødegaard. He actually has a perfect finishing position from 18 meters centrally, but lets the ball through. Then the attack fizzles out.

47.

22:05

Havertz crosses from the right side from the baseline to the far post, where Kimmich can just clear it in front of Gabriel Martinelli. Then the flag goes up anyway, Havertz was slightly offside.

46.

22:03

It continues in London, Kiwior, who looked bad when he conceded the second goal against Sané, stays in the dressing room, Zinchenko comes in.

46.

22:03

22:02

Kick-off of the 2nd half

45.+1

21:48

Half-time conclusion:
Bayern were leading 2-1 at the break and that wasn’t apparent at all at the beginning. After a short testing phase, the Gunners took control, took the lead early through Saka and had a huge chance to make it 2-0 through White. Instead, Bayern came out of nowhere to equalize with a quick counter-attack and even turned the game around with a penalty from Kane after a solo effort from Sané. Arsenal’s defense didn’t look good at all when they conceded both goals. Defensively, the guests have done better since the equalizer and managed the lead relatively easily. Only Davies seems a bit insecure on the left side of defense, which Arsenal plays on a permanent basis.

45.+1

21:47

End of 1st half

45.

21:47

Official injury time (minutes): 1

45.

21:46

FCB fought back strongly here and seems to be taking the lead into the break.

42.

21:43

Again Saka hits it very close to the goal, where Havertz and Gabriel block each other three meters in front of the goal and therefore do not get the ball on goal. Havertz also gave Kane a push, and the Swedish referee blew his whistle for the offensive foul.

41.

21:42

Arsenal is running, Bayern are defending tooth and nail around their own box. Dier clears against Ødegaard for the second corner.

38.

21:40

Now Arsenal comes down the left, but Kimmich and Sané defend well against Gabriel Martinelli and then get help from Goretzka, who finally wins the ball.

37.

21:38

Rice circles a free kick from the right half of the field onto the head of the incoming Gabriel, who heads it from 14 meters a good two meters to the right of Neuer’s box.

35.

21:37

Immediately afterwards, Sané suddenly breaks through to the halfway line and runs towards Raya alone. Then White works back well, Sané makes another mistake and then loses the ball. There was more potential!

34.

21:36

For the hosts, almost everything runs on the right side. This time Saka passes through to Ødegaard in the penalty area, who shoots from a tight angle to the right of the penalty area. De Ligt blocks the Dane’s shot.

33.

21:35

Bayern benefited from two blatant defensive errors and took advantage of them coldly. Now the Gunners are challenged, the Munich team initially retreats a long way.

32.

21:32

Great for Bayern Munich, 1:2 by Harry Kane

Bayern are leading! Kane loads Raya confidently by slowing down slightly on the run-up. The Gunners keeper is already on his way to the left corner, Kane easily slides flat into the right corner.

30.

21:30

Penalty for Bayern! Sané starts dribbling on the halfway line, goes through to the box and with Gabriel past the fifth Arsenal defender. Then Saliba comes a step too late and brings Sané down – a clear penalty.

29.

21:30

Arsenal kept varying the ball against the ball, sometimes attacking Bayern in their penalty area and then retreating into their own half with ten men.

27.

21:28

Saka hits it dangerously close to the goal, where there are many players and Neuer cannot intervene. The ball is briefly free three meters in front of the goal, but after a little poke it ends up in Neuer’s arms.

26.

21:27

Gnabry works well back and clears the ball against Saka on the baseline in his own penalty area for a corner.

25.

21:26

Kane wants to chip the ball from the halffield to Sané in the box, but the ball is a little too steep for the winger and ends up in Raya’s arms.

24.

21:26

Bayern regained a little more possession of the ball, but hardly left their own half.

22.

21:23

Arsenal tries to react, but can’t get through to Munich, who are now defending passionately and disciplinedly.

19.

21:22

The equalizer came out of nowhere, the Gunners had the game well under control beforehand. Immediately after the goal, it was strangely quiet in the Emirates Stadium.

18.

21:19

Great for Bayern Munich, 1-1 by Serge Gnabry

Bayern are back! And with a perfect counterattack. After a sloppy Gabriel pass, Sané gets the ball on the halfway line and passes it into Goretzka’s path. He passes it centrally in front of the penalty area directly to the incoming Gnabry, who, alone in front of Raya and pressed by White, overcomes the Gunners keeper from twelve meters and at full speed.

16.

21:18

White gives it 2-0! Ødegaard chips the ball into White’s path, Davies gets ahead of the full-back on the right, but heads the ball into Havertz’s foot. He quickly gets through perfectly to White, who suddenly only has Neuer in front of him. The shot from a 14-meter position on the right is powerful, but far too unplaced, so that Neuer can securely hold on to the shot from the middle. Lucky for Bayern!

13.

21:15

It’s a perfect start for the home team, who initially let Bayern have the ball and then took control and became more and more dangerous. Nevertheless, the first good chance led directly to the opening goal. How do Bayern react?

12.

21:12

Tooor for Arsenal FC, 1-0 by Bukayo Saka

Arsenal lead early! Saka actually gets stuck on Davies on the right side, but White quickly puts the ball into the penalty area. The England international has too much space there and circles the ball flat into the far corner from a twelve-meter half-right position with his strong left foot.

10.

21:12

For ten minutes it was a rather classic pat-down. Arsenal slowly increases the pressure and accelerates. Gabriel Martinelli is passed by Dier on the left in the penalty area.

9.

21:09

Yellow card for Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)

The Canadian interferes with Saka receiving the ball from behind and hits him on the foot. He is warned by Nyberg for this, which is a rather harsh decision. It’s also a yellow card with consequences, Davies will miss the second leg.

7.

21:09

A misunderstanding between de Ligt and Davies gives Saka a high ball win. Via Havertz and Ødegaard the ball goes to Gabriel Martinelli, who finishes directly with his left from 20 meters in a central position. The Brazilian’s attempt whizzes just past the right post.

6.

21:07

By the way, it is the first return to London for Dier and Kane. Both are whistled heavily every time they touch the ball, and former Tottenham players are not welcome at the Emirates Stadium.

5.

21:06

In the initial phase the ball runs almost exclusively through the Munich ranks. However, they don’t actually come into the Arsenal penalty area.

3.

21:03

A first cross from Sané from the right side is headed by Saliba from the penalty area.

2.

21:03

Arsenal disrupts the FCB defense extremely early and goes for it. Bayern try playfully until de Ligt takes a long shot.

1.

21:01

In a great atmosphere, Nyberg released the game. Bayern kicked off and were immediately whistled consistently and loudly.

21:00

Game start

20:57

The teams arrived at the Emirates Stadium in the best conditions. The Champions League anthem sounds and it’s about to get started. Have fun!

20:51

The referee team comes from Sweden. Glenn Nyberg is the referee, assisted by Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Söderqvist. Dutchman Dennis Higler acts as VAR assistant. By the way, visiting fans are not allowed today due to a UEFA ban.

20:47

Bayern have extremely fond memories of the last meeting between the two teams, but that dates back to the 2016/2017 season, when the Munich team eliminated the Gunners in the Champions League round of 16. Bayern, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, were able to outclass Arsenal 5-1 in front of their home crowd in the first leg and repeated this in the second leg with the same result at the Emirates Stadium.

20:40

Tuchel asked his team to “switch into Champions League mode” in advance of the game against Arsenal and was quite positive: “It’s important to show the best version of us, then we don’t have to hide.” On the other hand, Arteta is not misled by Bayern’s negative run in the league (two defeats in a row) and knows about FCB’s strengths: “If you analyze Bayern closely, you know that they are a top team.” Nevertheless, the ex-Gunners player is also optimistic: “If we get the game to where we want it to be, we have a good chance of winning.”

20:31

Arteta didn’t give his stars a break during their visit to Brighton and therefore only changed to two positions compared to the clear 3-0 win: Kiwior defended at the back left instead of Zinchenko (bench) and Gabriel Jesus moved into the three-man attack for Gabriel Martinelli Starting lineup. As has been the case for much of the season, the Gunners have almost everything they can do; only new signing Timber is still out.

20:24

At Bayern, the Neuer and Sané in question got fit in time and are in the starting line-up instead of Ulreich and Müller (both bench). In addition, Tuchel is rotating in central defense compared to the 2:3 in Heidenheim, as expected: Dier and de Ligt, who have been rested, replace Kim and Upamecano, both of whom initially sit on the bench. At least Coman, Mazraoui and Pavlović, who were also in question, made it into the squad.

20:18

Things are completely different at Arsenal, who now hold pole position in the Premier League title race after Liverpool’s mistake at Manchester United on Sunday (2-2). The Gunners are currently in top form, unbeaten in the league in 2024 and in eleven games, and gained further self-confidence with the clear 3-0 win in Brighton on Saturday. In the round of 16 of the Champions League, Mikel Arteta’s team had a surprisingly difficult time against FC Porto and, after a 0-1 in the first leg and a 1-0 in the second leg, only prevailed on penalties, in which David Raya made the match winner with two saved penalties mutated.

20:11

It is the last chance for a conciliatory season for Thomas Tuchel and FC Bayern Munich. For that to happen, we would at least need to progress against Arsenal and actually also win the Champions League. In the league, the Munich team will probably be certain next weekend – should Leverkusen win their home game against Werder Bremen on Sunday – that for the first time in eleven seasons in a row, the German champions will not be called Bayern Munich. With the desolate second half in Heidenheim (2:3) on Saturday, Bayern reached another low point of the season and lost a 2-0 lead in the newly promoted team.

Hello and welcome to the game Arsenal FC – Bayern Munich! The live ticker for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League starts just in time before the game starts.
