Cameroon Shines at the 45th African Senior Judo Championships in Cairo, Egypt

End clap for the 45th edition of the African Senior Judo Championships which was held from April 25 to 27, 2024 in Cairo, Egypt. At the time of assessment in the individual category, Egypt is leader in the ranking. Cameroon, for its part, won 3 medals, notably the gold obtained by Anita Soppi in the +78kg category.

The national anthem of Cameroon rang out during the 45th edition of the African individual judo championships which were held in Egypt from April 25 to 27, 2024. In the +78kg category, judokate Richelle Anita Soppi Mbella tamed final the Senegalese Georgette Sagna.

The competition was difficult, but we were able to surpass ourselves to take the first step of the podium. We trained and gave our best. The result is this beautiful gold medal. Now for the next meetings, I am continuing the qualifications for the 2024 Olympic games

If gold has only been won once, Cameroon also leaves Cairo with two silver medals. Franck Ulrich Tahman Zan lost in the -100kg final against Tunisian Ben Ghares Koussay while in the women’s category, Georgika Wesley Djengue Moune was beaten by Guinean Marie Branser in -78kg. With a gold medal in its bag, Cameroon is doing better than in the 2023 edition where it only obtained two silver medals.

It was a great experience, all the opponents were high level. I fought at my level and was able to get 2nd place.

The three days of individual competitions on the sidelines of the 2024 African Judo Championships ended on April 27. In the general ranking, Egypt is in the lead with eight medals, three in gold, two in silver and three in bronze, followed by Algeria, Morocco completes the podium in the ranking. Cameroon finishes 6th nation out of 34 in the general ranking of these 45th African Individual Judo Championships. The country is scoring valuable points on the way to qualifying for the Olympic Games which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
