While Bayer 04 Leverkusen can no longer take the championship with a 16-point lead in the table and the Werkself could celebrate the first Bundesliga title in the club’s history next weekend, other places in the table are still hotly contested in the upcoming final spurt of the season. Transfermarkt gives an overview of the remaining program of the Bundesliga clubs.

Due to Bayern’s surprising defeat in Heidenheim and VfB Stuttgart’s three-pointer in the top game at BVB, the fight for second place is hotter than ever with six match days left – only the better goal difference separates Thomas Tuchel’s team from those with the same number of points Swabians, who, at least on paper, now have the more difficult remaining program. The average table position of VfB’s six remaining opponents is 6.5, that of Bayern’s opponents is 10.17. Both teams will play in front of their home crowd on matchday 29, Sebastian Hoeneß and his team will host Eintracht Frankfurt, while Munich will host 1. FC Köln, who are threatened with relegation.

VfB is now seven points ahead of RB Leipzig and BVB in third place, the latter are likely to fight for the remaining fourth place in the Champions League in the coming weeks (but a fifth starting place in the premier class is also still possible ). At first glance, the remaining program of both teams is relatively balanced – but by the end of April at the latest, a preliminary decision could possibly be made when the competitors meet head-to-head. The sixth starting place for international business also remains hotly contested: in the table, Eintracht Frankfurt, which is eleven points behind BVB, is currently six points ahead of Augsburg, Hoffenheim and Freiburg. However, the SGE has the toughest remaining program with opponents like Stuttgart, Bayern, Leverkusen and RB with an average rank of 4.67. In Breisgau, Christian Streich and Co. can look forward to facing the easiest opponents in the season finale, at least on paper (average rank of 14.6).

Remaining program in the Bundesliga relegation battle: Cologne with the best cards?

In places ten to twelve, promoted Heidenheim, Borussia Mönchengladbach and SV Werder still have a decent points cushion over the relegation zone. After 28 match days, the Brenz team is closer to a European Cup place than to the bottom of the table and, with an opponent average rank of 13.17, also has the much easier remaining program than, for example, the Fohlen-Elf or the Bremen team. Places 13 (Union Berlin) and 17 (1. FC Köln) are still separated by seven points and, at least on paper, the rest of the program in the relegation zone doesn’t have much to offer – with an average rank of 11.33, the Domstadt team’s remaining tasks are in comparison Still supposedly the easiest to solve, VfL Bochum are now expected to be the most difficult opponents in terms of placements.
