Arizona Adds Talented JUCO Safety Marquis Brown to Defense

While most of the focus in college football world is focused on the re-opening of the NCAA transfer portal, recruiting of all types remains a 24/7 business. And it isn’t all doom-and-gloom, as Brent Brennan has added a good piece to the defense for his first season.

On Tuesday, 3-star junior college safety Marquis Brown announced his commitment to Arizona.

Brown, who prepped at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Ore., played last year at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif. He had himself a fantastic season, notching 62 tackles, 1 for a loss, a forced fumble, 5 picks, and 6 PBUs. That was good enough to earn him Defensive Player of the Year and JUCO All-American honors.

The 6-foot-4, 200 pound safety is long and rangy. He has very long arms that allow him to easily make plays on the ball or disrupt the opposing receiver. He has great instincts and pretty fluid hips. He can read the QB, know where he is on the field, and change direction based on the direction the play is going. He also has a nice little Chuck Cecil-esque play to start off his highlights.

Brown chose Arizona over offers from Washington State, North Carolina State, Utah State and UConn to name a few.

He is ranked as a 3-star prospect in 247’s internal rankings. For JUCO players, he is No. 64 player nationally, the No. 7 safety and the 11th-best player in California JUCOs.
