Antony Gautier recognizes several refereeing errors during OL-Brest

Penalty not awarded to Brest, Lacazette offside on Lyon’s first goal

The boss of the referees concedes that a penalty should have been awarded to the Finistériens after 16 minutes of play, when Steve Mounié’s header headed towards Anthony Lopes’ goal, but hit the hand of Jake O’Brien: “The technical position of the arbitration department is clear on this subject. You have an artificial increase in the surface covered by the body of the Lyon defender, with obviously a defender who takes the risk of touching the ball with his hand and being penalized in this situation. The expected decision was a penalty and video assistance intervention if the decision was not made on the field. »

“The expected decision was to sanction the attacker’s offside position and therefore respond with an indirect free kick for Stade Brestois”

Antony Gautier also affirmed that Lyon’s first goal, signed Corentin Tolisso (18th), should not have been awarded due to an offside position by Alexandre Lacazette: “The Lyon striker interferes with a Brest defender because necessarily, there is a desire to compete for the ball with a race that is initiated upwards, towards the ball. And so in this situation, the expected decision was to sanction the attacker’s offside position and therefore to respond with an indirect free kick for Stade Brestois. »

A hand from Matic wrongly sanctioned

If Antony Gautier did not contradict Mathieu Vernice concerning the red card received by Pierre Lees-Melou (86th), he believes that there was no hand from Lyonnais Nemanja Matic on the free kick which resulted in Brest’s second goal: “The images speak for themselves since you have a Lyon player who has his arm and elbow stuck to his body and who, with this position, sees the ball hitting the top of his arm. So, obviously, there is no artificial increase in the surface area covered by the body by the Lyon player. And so very clearly, this hand was not punishable and should not have been the subject of a free kick in favor of Stade Brestois. »

The boss of the referees also assured that the Finistère goalkeeper, Marco Bizot, should have been sanctioned with a red card (in addition to the penalty whistled) after his dangerous exit on Alexandre Lacazette in added time. “There is clearly a danger to the physical integrity of the Lyon player,” declared Gautier who explained that he had spoken with Grégory Lorenzi, sports director of Stade Brestois who had said after the meeting: “We know very well that Brest disturbs “. To which the technical director of refereeing responded on Monday: “I refute these kinds of allegations. (…) Brest does not bother more than other clubs. »

Not sure that this is enough to console the people of Brest who see their place as runners-up threatened by the Monegasques, currently behind in the standings by a small point and with a match in hand.
