Angelique Kerber Embraces New Challenges on Tour Despite Lingering Cold Symptoms

This was explained by Kerber, who is still slightly suffering from the after-effects of a cold.

“I already knew what to expect, that on the one hand it would all be much more strenuous, that my team had grown, that the plan would have to be restructured a bit, and that I would have to be very spontaneous and flexible,” said the 36 year old.

She has been traveling with her daughter Liana since the beginning of the year, but she only flew alone to Brazil for the Billie Jean King Cup last weekend – for the first time.

“I think it was worse for me than for her,” Kerber said with a smile about the separation. She emphasized that she knew Liana, who will soon be 14 months old, was in good hands.

Kerber knows: It takes “time and patience”

“At some point you have to take this step. But everything was fine. I’m also glad that I have her by my side because of course, after a few hours you definitely missed each other.”

Kerber assured that since she returned to work at the end of the year everything has largely happened as she expected.

She has played twelve matches since her comeback and lost eight, including three in the first round. “I knew that I needed time and patience to get back to my performance. And I’m still in this phase of feeling my way. But on the other hand, it didn’t surprise me.”

It’s clear: Kerber has to give up in Miami
