Ajax wants to promote Kelvin de Lang from head of scouting to technical manager, Voetbal International reported on Saturday morning. As a result, the 43-year-old Amsterdammer will be given a new position in the Johan Cruijff ArenA after just over six months. De Lang must help Ajax through the transfer summer together with football director Marijn Beuker.

Journalist Tim van Duijn will release the news on Saturday. De Lang and Beuker will be supported next summer by commissioner Danny Blind and technical advisor Louis van Gaal. The struggling Ajax expects a difficult transfer summer and therefore wants to face it with a decent line-up.

De Lang, who has a past as a youth scout and player supervisor at Manchester City, has only been employed by Ajax since August. The Amsterdammer was appointed head of scouting, but has temporarily acted as his successor in technical matters since the dismissal of technical director Sven Mislintat.

In his article, Van Duijn points out which matters De Lang has already had influence on. “Among other things, he rented out bad buy Georges Mikautadze to FC Metz, played an important role in signing Jordan Henderson and successfully concluded contract talks with Jorrel Hato (18). De Lang also brought back Julian Rijkhoff and Kian Fitz-Jim to Ajax.”

According to the journalist, the Amsterdam club previously planned to appoint a technical manager from outside. “Ajax had discussions in the background with the German Christopher Vivell to become transfer director, but after the suspension of Alex Kroes that has been canceled. The club management now wants to continue with De Lang in the role of technical manager.”

For the time being, Ajax will first look for a new trainer. According to Van Duijn, that task lies mainly in Beuker’s hands. The 39-year-old policy man from Nieuw-Vennep has only been employed by the Amsterdam record champion since December.

De Lang will mainly have conversations with players in the coming months. For example, Ajax wants to extend the contracts of Kristian Hlynsson (mid-2026) and Devyne Rensch (mid-2025). If the latter is not willing to do so, he may leave Amsterdam. Van Duijn also writes that it is currently unclear whether Ar’Jany Martha has a future at Ajax.
