Hedwiges Maduro is one of the important candidates for Alex Pastoor’s successor at Almere City FC, as Tim van Duijn of Voetbal International knows. Almere City is seriously considering the departure of its successful coach, who seems to have led the club to almost effortless maintenance in his first Eredivisie year.

Pastoor has an expiring contract in Almere, number twelve in the Eredivisie. The club is seriously considering that the coach will permanently close the door at the Yanmar Stadium after this season.

Maduro is one of the candidates to succeed Pastoor. Maduro had been Pastoor’s assistant coach at Almere for two years, but decided to move to his childhood sweetheart Ajax last summer. There, Maduro initially became assistant coach to Maurice Steijn, who was soon fired. After a few games as interim head coach of Ajax, Maduro became assistant to John van ‘t Schip.

Almere has also spoken with Rick Kruys, who is leaving VVV-Venlo. Kruys is also in the picture at sc Heerenveen, which initially seems to be targeting Robin van Persie.

Maduro is working on obtaining his UEFA Pro license, which he needs to be a head coach. In that context, Maduro led a match at Jong Ajax last Monday (0-2 loss against FC Den Bosch).

Maduro’s contract with Ajax runs until mid-2026. The former defender can continue in Amsterdam as the successor to Jong Ajax head coach Dave Vos.
