Xàtiva Badminton Club Athletes Shine at Senior Master Tournament in Murcia

The athletes from the Xàtiva Badminton Club who competed in the Senior Master last weekend in Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia) have returned from the Murcia town with seven medals and good feelings. The Setabe club participated in the national test with eight athletes, who failed one gold, three silver and three bronze.

Carlos Martínez competed in three events, winning the silver medal in the SV+/SV++ men’s singles, after losing in the final match against Manmohan Sing Rai by 21-8 and 21-15. In the SV/SV+ mixed doubles, Martínez partnered with M.ª Cristina Pastor (CB Benalmádena) and won the bronze, while in the men’s doubles of category D, who played with Santiago Villanueva, also from CB Xàtiva, they achieved the fourth place. Santiago, for his part, could not overcome the singles group stage.

The highest metal, gold, came from the hand of Juan Carlos Hintze in the men’s doubles of the C2 category, in which he competed with Maximinio Hernández (CB Las Torres). The couple beat Chris Knapp and Ángel Moreno in the final by 21-10 and 21-8. In mixed doubles, Juan Carlos competed with Gloria Latorre in the C2/D category, winning the silver after losing in the decisive match against Bernardo Galmes and Mercè Llugany by 21-14 and 22-20. In the C1 category, José Luis Llopis could not overcome the group stage in singles. In doubles, with Antonio Jover (CB San Fernando de València) there was no luck either. In B2, Vicente Ferrer finished fifth after losing in the quarterfinals against David Ramal.

Vicente Ferrer and Julio Martín won the bronze medal in the B2 men’s doubles, losing in the semifinals against David De La Cruz and Miguel Ángel Polo by 21-17, 12-21 and 21-18. In this same category, M.ª José Mompó and Julio Martín won silver in the mixed doubles, after losing in the final against Álvaro Rangil and Esther Sanz by 21-14 and 21-13. The B2 category was completed with Mompó and his partner Esther Augusto (CB Collado Villalba) in the women’s doubles, where they did not make it past the group stage.

Daniel Meseguer participated in B1, who won bronze after achieving third position in the men’s doubles, along with Pedro Manuel Caparrós (CB Cartagena). In addition, they added more minutes together for upcoming tournaments.

Upcoming competitions

The Xàtiva Badminton Club will play this Saturday, March 23, the second provincial day of the Sports Games of the Valencian Community for the Benjamin category, which will take place in Enguera. Aarón Fasanar will participate from the Setabe club along with several players from the Xàtiva Municipal Badminton Sports School. CB Xàtiva will also be this Saturday in the Top TTR Sub-13, Sub-17 and Senior tournament that takes place in Lardero (La Rioja)where Vicente Ferrer will compete in the senior men’s singles and doubles events.

The third and last day of the Autonomous League of Clubs of the Valencian Community, this Sunday in El Campello, will also have participation from Sebastián. The club’s two teams, Caixa Popular A and B, will fight for their objectives. The first team will seek to continue the good play and victories achieved to consolidate its position in first place, facing CB San Fernando de València, second placed, and CB Manises. The second team, for its part, will fight to get third place, with three important crosses against CB El Campello, CB San Fernando de València and CB Teulada.
