The Tour of Flanders has been rocked by several crashes that also involved spectators standing along the road. Stefan Küng, Cees Bol, Ben Swift, Nico Denz and Floris De Tier, among others, were involved in those falls, while some spectators were also in bad shape.

At 128 kilometers from the finish there was a crash in the middle of the peloton, with a female spectator in particular in a bad condition on the asphalt. She appeared to have been hit hard by one of the riders. It was a crash involving eight riders, including Ben Swift, Nico Denz, Floris De Tier and Guillaume Boivin.

Sporza reported later in the afternoon that the woman had been taken to hospital with serious injuries. She was out of danger at the time.

New crash with Küng
At 80 kilometers before the finish line there was another crash due to the crowds along (and on) the road. The biggest name involved was Stefan Küng. Cees Bol was also there, as were Alessandro Covi and Brent Van Moer.

The day before the Tour of Flanders, the organization of the biggest Flemish cycling classic of the year had warned the public: “The public road between the red and the green flag is exclusively for the riders. Do not stand on the road, do not cross the road or stand on raised medians.”
