Warriors’ Draymond Green Sets Record with Second First-Quarter Ejection of the Season

The Warriors power forward was ejected in the first quarter for the second time this season to become the only player with multiple first-quarter ejections in a single season in the last 20 years.

Draymond Green moved near the top of the list for fastest player ejections after being ejected at 8:24 of the first quarter on Wednesday.

The Warriors power forward received two technical fouls after arguing with a referee during the game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Green He has been ejected four times this season, the most in his career, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He is the first player to be ejected at least four times in a single season since Kevin Durant in 2017-18 (5).

It was also the 19th expulsion of Green in the regular season, the second most in NBA history over the last 25 seasons. He trails only Rasheed Wallace (25).

Although Green He only logged just under four minutes of playing time, still a long time compared to others in recent times. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was ejected 63 seconds into a game in 2019.

The former All-Star point guard made headlines for his ejection 88 seconds into a 2020 game. Replays showed Thomas shoved a referee, causing him to trip over fans sitting courtside. He was immediately expelled while he pleaded his case.

“He made physical contact with the referee,” referee chief Mark Ayotte said in a group report. “It was definitely just a push during the dead ball contact with the referee.”

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Thomas was the first player to be ejected in the first two minutes of an NBA game since Greg Ostertag in 2002. The NBA fined Thomas $25,000.

Time on the clock: 10:17 in the first quarter

Green was involved in a quick ejection in November 2023. After a fight between Thompson and McDaniels, the Warriors power forward found himself ejected after applying a headlock to Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

The altercation resulted in a five-game suspension for Green, while Thompson and McDaniels were fined.

An aggressive catching game with Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid sent Bledsoe early to the locker room.
