Vincent Clerc, winner of the Paris tournament in 2005: “Antoine Dupont brought positive energy”

“Nineteen years after the last title of the Bleus du 7 in Paris in 2005, the French team won the Los Angeles tournament. How did you experience the end of this famine?
I was super happy. Work around rugby sevens has been carried out for years. At one point, there was enthusiasm, then it started to die down. This result is a great opportunity to put the spotlight back on this sport which is still fabulous, very spectacular and very complementary to rugby fifteens. This offers great visibility thanks to Antoine (Dupont), obviously, but also thanks to the result itself. The team has been looking for this victory for years, it has come close several times. They deserved to finally be rewarded. I had the chance to participate in this consecration at a tournament in 2005. I believe that Antoine is experiencing a bit of the same thing but he has an even more important objective behind it (the Games in Paris this summer).
