Ultras Demand Resignation of VfB Stuttgart Executive Board Amid Power Struggle

After the power struggle at VfB Stuttgart escalated behind the scenes in recent weeks, the Ultras have now issued a long statement and are calling for the entire executive board to resign.

Stuttgart’s President Claus Vogt was able to be sure of the curve’s support for a long time. But the events of the last few weeks have led to a complete break between the executive committee, supervisory board and ultras at VfB.

When Vogt lost his position as chairman of the supervisory board at VfB Stuttgart 1893 AG almost two weeks ago and Tanja Gönner temporarily took over the position, the long-tense mood behind the scenes at the traditional club finally boiled over. Statement after statement followed in which various parties involved stated that Vogt was even considering legal action against his deselection. Vice President Rainer Adrion and board member Christian Riethmüller then moved away from Vogt, so that the president is now completely isolated in the club.

And the fans? At the last away game in Hoffenheim, the unmistakable ultimatum was: “Members sold and betrayed – you have two weeks to correct this mistake.” Now the Ultras became specific and made clear demands to the club in a long statement.

“Cannstatter Kurve” has three core demands

“We demand an immediate resignation of the entire Presidium of the eV, namely President Claus Vogt, Vice-President Rainer Adrion and Presidium member Christian Riethmüller.” By betraying members’ rights, the “base of trust has been completely destroyed.” The personal union of eV president and AG supervisory board chairman was a promise made during the spin-off in 2017, which was broken by recent events. In this context, the Ultras also see the relationship between shareholders Porsche and VfB as “massively damaged from the start”.

In addition, Gönner, who sees herself as a temporary solution, is being called upon to immediately resign as chairman of the supervisory board. The position will be taken over by an interim president, who will be appointed by the association’s advisory board. Last but not least, the AG’s supervisory board is asked to make a commitment to act in the interests of the members in the future and to respect the 50+1 rule. The statement is signed by the “Cannstatter Kurve”.

How does VfB react?

This means that it is VfB’s turn again and will have to explain what will happen next in the messy situation. Because it is hardly conceivable that Vogt, who is elected president until 2025, will fulfill his term of office. The board led by Alexander Wehrle had recently called for calm and suggested a working group that in the race for the Champions League, “everyone should work closely together.” How much patience the fans have will be shown on Easter Sunday when the first home game since the escalation at management level is against 1. FC Heidenheim.
