MotoGP: Quartararo on the podium in the sprint race, hard blow for Zarco

Great performance from 2021 MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo during the Sprint race, before the Spanish Grand Prix which will start this Sunday at 2 p.m. The Frenchman climbed to third place, and therefore closes the podium behind Pedro Acosta and Jorge Martin. Currently 12th in the rider standings, the Yamaha rider put in a great performance.

However, such a place was far from won for Quartararo. Before the sprint race, the Frenchman started from 23rd place. It must be said that the latter knew how to take advantage of the numerous falls. Notably those of Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini and Marc Marquez, who started in first position. The latter may have regrets. While he was in the lead, the Spaniard also crashed with his Ducati, but was able to resume the race and snatch a seventh place.

Big disappointment for Zarco

At the microphone of Canal+, Quartararo shared his joy after this crazy comeback: “We saw the falls, there was a pretty good luck factor. I am very happy. We learned a lot of things today. We will start to enjoy this first sprint podium (…) I don’t expect to achieve the same result tomorrow, but we can be satisfied with this race. »

If the improbable scenario of the race was beneficial for Quartararo, it was not the case for Johann Zarco. On the last lap, the Frenchman was fifth, but in the penultimate corner, he and his Honda fell while trying to fight against Franco Morbidelli who wanted to overtake him. Almost at the foot of the podium, Zarco must therefore be content with a sad 12th position.
