Milan, the financial police at the headquarters: the official press release from the Rossoneri

The Financial Police carried out a search at the headquarters of Casa Milan following the investigation by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office into some possible inconsistencies in the operation that led to the sale of the club from the Elliot fund to RedBird.

For some time now, Milan has been experiencing a moment of uncertainty regarding the future, especially regarding the possible stay of Stefano Pioli on the Rossoneri bench also next season. The alternation of results and the Scudetto objective almost mathematically vanished have put the Devil’s management in a position to have to start evaluating possible moves for the summer so as not to find themselves unprepared and return to the top of Italian football. However, there is also something else that worries the club’s staff and concerns some delicate issues related to the club’s transition from the Elliot fund to RedBird in 2022.

At the same time as the search carried out by the Guardia di Finanza today at the Casa Milan headquarters, the Milan Prosecutor’s Office also included the current CEO of the club Giorgio Furlani and the former CEO Ivan Gazidis on the list of suspects. The alleged crime associated with the investigations would be that of “obstructing the supervisory authorities of the Football Federation”.

In this sense, despite being able to demonstrate that they were not involved in the facts contested in the relevant bodies, Milan could still incur some sanctions from the FIGC, but above all from UEFA. In fact, according to the regulations of the highest European football organisation, anyone who already controls another club cannot have the slightest influence on other clubs registered in the same competitions. The Elliot fund, therefore, which already partly influences the decisions of the Lille ownership, could not have carried out the same activity with the Devil.

This is the statement from the Rossoneri club: “With regard to the search that took place today in its headquarters, the AC Milan company is third and extraneous to the ongoing proceedings relating to the acquisition of the same, completed in August 2022.

“The investigation, which also involves the legal representatives with signatory power, Giorgio Furlani and Ivan Gazidis, current and previous CEO of the Club, hypothesizes incorrect communications to the competent supervisory authority. The company is providing full cooperation to the investigating authority.”
