Talking about CBS MiralBueno is talking about the best baseball in Aragon. But the work of the humble Zaragoza club, founded in 1988, also brings returns beyond the borders of the Community. It is, in fact, one of the best teams in the country, since it has just started its seventh season in the highest national category.

CBS MiralBueno began the season in the Spanish Baseball League, the first division of this sport, last weekend against Sant Boi of Barcelona. It is a discipline that in Aragon only has two federated teams. A few kilometers from Zaragoza, Jabatos de Huesca is the other group that works tirelessly in search of the talent that is to come.

“We have around 130 licenses and they will be around 50. We are the only ones who work in the quarry in Aragon. Our objective this year in the top category is to continue consolidating CBS Miralbueno in the national elite and develop the work of recent years “says Eduardo Lahuerta, president of an entity that remains among the best since its promotion in 2017.

The squad, made up of around 30 players, mixes the experience of veterans with the daring of the youngest. “We make a determined commitment to the youth team, we want the grassroots players to grow and develop their game here. In recent years, players as young as 16 or 17 have made their debut in the elite,” acknowledges Lahuerta, who also highlights the “great role” carried out by the most veterans. “Four experienced players have come from Madrid. We want to accommodate a medium and long-term project, but always maintaining the values ​​of this category,” he underlines.

Another objective of the season is to surpass the seven victories that the team achieved last year. In this first phase, the Zaragoza team faces rivals from Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, Valencia… even a Tenerife native. Last Sunday, against Sant Boi, the campaign began with a two-game duel, where the Aragonese and Catalans shared a victory each.

The first fell to the visiting side (4-9), but in the second, CBSMiralbueno took a narrow victory by 8 runs to 6. “The facility we have is our main problem. It complies with the measures, but we are working with the City Council of Zaragoza to try to improve it. Half of the field does not have the necessary light, so it cannot be played at night. In addition, the natural grass is practically planted by the members of the club. We are very far from the category and the needs that requires this competition,” laments the president.

This improvement in the CBS Miralbueno facility is also a wish for the entity, since next October Zaragoza will host the Spanish Under-18 Women’s Championship.
