The beginning of the year for Katarzyna Kawa (190th WTA) was quite difficult. In January and February, the Pole won only one match in the Australian Open qualifications, against Lina Gjorczeska (WTA 239) from North Macedonia (7:5, 4:6, 6:3). She did slightly better in doubles, although in a duo with Ukrainian Marta Kostiuk she was forced to forfeit the match for the third round of the Australian Open. March started well for her. In the qualifications, she won two victories against Wiera Zvonariova (268th WTA) 6:3, 1:6, 6:2 and 6:3, 6:1 against Carole Monnet (195th WTA). Thanks to this victory, she advanced to the challenger tournament in Antalya.

Katarzyna Kawa was eliminated from the WTA 125 tournament on clay courts in Antalya

In the first round, Katarzyna Kawa defeated Belgian Elena Gabriela Ruse (WTA 170) 3:6, 7:6, 6:2. The Pole faced Olga Danilović (WTA 133) in the second round of the tournament in Turkey. The Serbian tennis player broke Kawa from the very beginning and took a 1-0 lead. However, this did not discourage the 31-year-old and a moment later she leveled the competition at 1:1 and then gained a two-point advantage (3:1). She didn’t enjoy it for long, because she lost her serve again and the score was 3:3.

In the next games we witnessed a fierce clash. It was impossible to say at 5:5 how this set would end. And it ended in a tie-break. The tie-break was even until the score was 3-3, then Danilović took the initiative and won the first set 7-6.

In the second set, Kawa started making many mistakes and lost two of her own serves at the very beginning. Danilović also made mistakes several times, but she was much more effective than the Pole. Ultimately, after 10 games in the second set, the Serbian tennis player was happy with her triumph over Kawa, winning it 6:4 and the entire match 7:6:, 6:4.

The defeat against Olga Danilović ended Katarzyna Kawa’s participation in the singles challenger tournament in Antalya.
