The Clay Court Calendar: Rafael Nadal’s Potential Tournament Schedule Leading Up to Roland-Garros

In a column written for BetwayAndy Roddick imagined the different scenarios concerning Rafael Nadal’s calendar on clay until Roland‐Garros (May 26 to June 9).

“Ideally, Rafael Nadal would like to play maybe three tournaments before Roland-Garros. He’s the type of player who needs matches. Monte‐Carlo has always been a successful event for him, and one would think that he would like to play again in Madrid, in his home country. Now that these are 10-day tournaments, that probably increases the chances of seeing him in Madrid and Rome, but that will depend on results. If he is eliminated prematurely in Madrid, I don’t see him waiting three weeks before Roland‐Garros. Monte‐Carlo will be very revealing of the state of his body. If he participates in this tournament, his schedule will be busier. »

As a reminder, the Spaniard is on the entry list for the Masters 1000 in Monte‐Carlo (April 6 to 14) where he will use his protected ranking.
