Champions looking for confirmation or redemption, stories of rebirth, old and new faces of ultra trail and trail running, but also personalities from the world of sport who put themselves at risk for the first time among the descents and climbs of Chianti . There will be many athletes ready to battle over the five distances on the programme: the 103 km Ultra Trail Chianti Castles (4000m D+) and then the 73 km Chianti Ultra Trail (2800m D+), both valid for qualification for the CCC® race 2024 of the UTMB World Series finals, the 42 km Chianti Marathon Trail (1400m D+), the 20 km Chianti Half Trail (800m D+) and the 15 km Chianti Wine Run (600m D+), among expanses of vineyards and the forest of Monte San Michele, the highest point of the route, through the historic villages. Almost the entire route develops on unpaved paths, some of which are private, thus offering participants the opportunity to enjoy exclusive views of the hills as far as the eye can see, on landscapes that have changed little compared to the backgrounds of the Renaissance masterpieces.

Among the names expected at the start, that of a champion of the Ultra Trail stands out, the Spaniard Pau Capell. His story of rebirth began when, after suffering a serious knee and ligament injury in 2012 while playing football, doctors suggested he run and train in the mountains to aid recovery and strengthen his muscles. From here his career in trail running began, collecting successes: two-time champion of the Ultra Trail World Tour, champion of Spain in the Ultra Cup, and winner of four Transgrancanaria Classics. He also took first place at the Eiger Ultra Trail, the Patagonia 100 Miler and the TDS Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc and in 2019 he won the UTMB with a record time of 20 hours and 19 minutes over a distance of 171 km, a victory which it earned him the ultra running world title.

Another super name in trail running will line up at the start of the Chianti Marathon Trail. He is the American Dakota Jones, winner of the Transvulcanica 2023 and third in the UTMB CCC. A mechanical engineer and actor in his spare time, the ultra runner is also an environmental activist and after taking part in a race in Alaska he decided to create the Footprints Running Camps in which participants spend a week running together, learning to learning about climate change and developing climate action projects to carry forward.
