TCK x Koji Uehara: Rise to the Top of Dirt Racing Campaign

Tokyo City Horse Racing (TCK) is currently running the highly popular “TCK x Koji Uehara Rise to the Top of Dirt. Campaign” as a special project to enliven the “3-Year-Old Triple Crown Race on Dirt” that will be established this year. In order to further enliven “Keihin Sake (Jpn II)” which will be held on March 20th (Wednesday/holiday) as a prelude to Haneda Sake (Jpn I), today (3/11) a special movie “TCK × Koji Uehara” will be released. We would like to inform you that we have released “Run up to the top of dirt racing. Keihin Cup edition”.

“Keihin Cup (Jpn II)” is a race that is positioned as a prelude to the first race of the 3-year-old dirt triple crown race “Haneda Cup (Jpn I)”, and is a dirt race held at the Twinkle Race on the same stage and environment as the actual race. This is a grade race that you cannot miss.

Continuing from the first and second special movies, former professional baseball player Koji Uehara appears and narrates, and Uehara, who has experience of reaching the top in both Japan and the world, portrays his fearless appearance and brilliant pitching. In addition to showing off their form, there is also a narration that looks back on their racing days, which also has similarities to the world of horse racing, and the “white sand” of the course is used as a screen to project images of TCK’s powerful races, making it full of highlights.

In addition, in conjunction with the release of the third special movie, TCK official Twitter (@tck_keiba) will start a giveaway campaign today (3/11) where you can win 10,000 yen worth of Tokyo beef and a ball autographed by Koji Uehara.

■Koji Uehara profile

Born April 3, 1975, from Osaka Prefecture.
In 1998, he joined the Yomiuri Giants with the first pick in the draft.
In 2004, he was selected to represent Japan at the Athens Olympics and won a bronze medal.
In 2006, he was selected to represent Japan and won the 1st World Baseball Classic.
In 2008, he moved to the Baltimore Orioles.
In 2013, he won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox, becoming the first Japanese pitcher to raise his pitcher.
In 2016, he signed with the Chicago Cubs.
In 2018, he signed a contract with the Yomiuri Giants.
In 2019, he announced his retirement from active duty.

After retiring as an active player, he appeared on NHK’s “Sunday Sports” and TBS’s “Sunday Morning,” and opened a YouTube channel, “Koji Uehara’s Chat Spirit.”

Q. Please tell us how you feel about being appointed as a promotion ambassador.
A. The horse racing world is really exciting right now, so I hope it will become even more exciting when I become an ambassador.

Q.What are the highlights of Keihin Sake?
A. This is the first race of the dirt triple crown, and we will be competing for the last ticket to the Haneda Cup, so I hope all the horses will do their best to reach the top.

Q.What is the next stage for Mr. Uehara?
A. I might be able to become a coach, and if I were to become a coach, I would like to be a good coach and develop good players.

Q.After filming, please tell us your impressions of today.
A.It was quite tiring because it’s not something I’m used to. I was nervous.
Maybe it’s not for me, but I had a good experience.
