Three judokas from Hartberg, namely Josef Ertl as well as Alexander and Christoph Falk, landed on the podium at the Styrian Championships in Köflach.
KÖFLACH. Three judokas from TSV Hartberg Judo took part in the Styrian Judo Championships in Köflach. Josef Ertl, who prevailed against his opponents in all preliminary rounds, finally had to admit defeat to fighter Uma Murtazaliev from the Judo Union Kirchbach in the final and thus won the well-deserved runner-up title in the U12 category under 34 kilograms.
Successful judo brothers
The judo brothers Alexander and Christoph Falk, who have been very successful in recent years, both competed in the U21 category up to 73 kilograms this year. In the end, both failed because of the same opponent: While Said-Seil Dovtaev from the Judo Union Graz was able to prevail in all his fights with his skillful lever throws and thus win the Styrian championship title, Alexander Falk had to overcome him in the final after a so-called ippon throw – i.e technically clean throw, in which the respective opponent usually lands on his back – admit defeat and thus be satisfied with the runner-up title.
Christoph Falk, who ended up in the consolation round after his defeat against the eventual overall winner Dovtaev, was able to prevail in all further fights, but ultimately had to share third place with his last opponent, Asha Vaharigov from the Zeltweg judo team.
“I could have done it”
Sandra Pferschy, who mainly conducts the youth training at TSV Hartberg Judo and also trains Josef Ertl, was proud of her protégé’s performance.
The coach of the hopeful judo brothers, Christian Wagner, who was unable to be personally present at the Styrian championships due to a scheduling conflict with another TSV Hartberg Judo club activity, was also satisfied with the results, although he was of course hoping for a win at the next ones Championships and Alexander Falk, who had already been warned by his brother about his last opponent, was confident: “I could have done it,” said the young Hartberg athlete.
