Tennis: Concern for Djokovic before Roland Garros?

Little seen since the start of the season, Novak Djokovic is in worrying form a few weeks before the start of Roland Garros. The Serbian was notably beaten in Monte Carlo by Casperd Ruud for the first big meeting of the season on gravel. This defeat raised questions, notably from former world number 1, Andy Roddick.
The tournament of Montecarlo, traditionally considered the kickoff of the clay court season, offered its share of thrills this year. If Rafael Nadal remains the undisputed sovereign of this meeting with 11 crowns to his credit, it is Stefanos Tsitsipas who shone brightly during this 2024 edition. The Greek player added a prestigious third row to his list of achievements by winning on the Rock, thus offering him an extra dose of confidence as he approaches Roland-Garros. On the other hand, the road seems strewn with pitfalls for Novak Djokovicwho is struggling to regain his sparkling level of play from the previous season. Andy Roddick is even worried about the Serb.
“It was weird to watch”
“I find it hard to understand the Novak we saw in Monte Carlo. In the first set, he looked exhausted. The exchange lasted seven or eight strikes and he looked exhausted. We’re talking about a 22 degree day, it was weird to watch. He then found his game and came back, but in the last play of the match, he missed a first ball, he missed a high volley from two or three meters…” said the American, before continuing.
“It’s a little worrying”
