St. Louis Cardinals Extend Manager Oliver Marmol’s Contract for Two Years

The St. Louis Cardinals extended manager Oliver Marmol’s contract for two years on Friday.

The team is trying to rebound after going 71-91 last year, finishing last in the National League Central Division.

“The most important thing for ‘Oli,’ the coaches and the players, is to know that they are supported,” Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said.

“We believe in this principle. We didn’t think it was a good strategy to have a manager who didn’t know what to expect. »

Aged 37, Marmol worked in the Cardinals’ subsidiaries as a player and as an instructor.

In his first season at the helm of the Cards, the team obtained 93 wins and won a section title in 2022.

“We believe he is the right person for this position,” Mozeliak said. We are delighted to know that he will be here for the next few years. We are happy to have this resolved and we look forward to the future. »
