NFL owners approve massive overhaul of kickoff rules

On Tuesday, NFL team owners decided to bring back the kickoff and incorporate elements from the XFL’s approach as part of their changes to special teams gameplay.

The team preparing for a return will position at least nine members in a specific area called the “set up zone” between the 30 and 35-yard lines. Seven of these players must be touching the 35-yard line. Additionally, two returners can be positioned inside their own 20-yard line.
