Racist chants against Nico Williams: the match between Atlético and Bilbao stopped for a few minutes

The years go by, but racism unfortunately still has a place in certain football stadiums. In Spain, Vinicius Junior has often spoken out to call for things to change. This time, it was Nico Williams who was targeted by some Atlético de Madrid supporters.

On the occasion of the match between the Colchoneros and Athletic Bilbao, the young striker is preparing to take a corner in the 36th minute. But the game was stopped for a few minutes by the referee. The announcer then speaks, asking fans to “refrain from making offensive shouts”. Brand reports that Williams complained about racist shouting. The Spanish media specifies that the insults towards the Spanish international were not in the majority. Under whistles from the public, Antoine Griezmann and José Gimenez tried to ask the fans to calm down.

Finally, Nico Williams got a little revenge a few minutes later, scoring the equalizer before the break. In the process, the attacker celebrates by showing the public his skin color. Both teams are fighting to secure a place in the Champions League. Fourth, Diego Simeone’s men are only three points ahead of their evening opponent, in fifth position.
