At the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Montafon on Saturday (2:15 p.m., live on ORF1) and Sunday (2:15 p.m., live on ORF Sport +), the route for the 2027 World Championships will be tested for the first time. In any case, local hero Alessandro Hämmerle is confident about his home race, as he has won the last two competitions in Montafon.

“Victory that you can celebrate at home is particularly fun,” said Hämmerle. The Olympic champion is in second place in the overall World Cup, but is already 372 points behind the Canadian Eliot Groundin with four races to go, which means he can probably no longer be caught. World champion Jakob Dusek, who recently achieved third place in the Sierra Nevada, also wants to have a say in the fight for daily victories: “If I can perform at my best this week, a lot is possible.”

For women, the exciting race for the overall World Cup enters the next round at the penultimate World Cup station. The Frenchwoman Chloe Trespeuch is leading and can win the World Cup for the first time. However, there are only 163 points between her and the Australian Belle Brockhoff in sixth place, which means that no decision will likely be made this weekend.

Four Austrians there

Four Austrians qualified for the competition on Saturday. Dusek ended up in third place in the qualification as the best ÖSV athlete, followed by Hämmerle in fourth place. Julian Lüftner (15th) and Luca Hämmerle (27th) complete the Austrian squad. For Lukas Pachner, David Pickl, Andreas Kroh, Marco Dornhofer and Pia Zerkhold on the women’s side, qualifying was the final stop.
